What Are We About?
The Probus Club of Kanata is part of a world wide association of Probus Clubs,
Purpose: -
to provide regular opportunities for retired and semi-retired men
and women that appreciate and value opportunities to meet others with
similar levels of interest.
- to continue the feeling of mutual goodwill
and sense of community that has developed among members. The
diverse interests, the feeling of
fellowship and
the cordiality evident within the Club has greatly contributed to the
ongoing success of it.
The Word PROBUS - was derived from the wordsPROfessional and BUSiness;
but, membership is not restricted to these
groups.
While some members may have had
responsibility in some field of endeavout in the past, most are persons
who
enjoy
the company of others and who want to learn more about all kinds of
topics of
current interest.
Emphases are on:
- providing fellowship and opportunity for the development
of acquaintances;
- seeking members who are compatible
with each other;
- freedom from the constraints and
obligations of service clubs; and
- a simple structure and operation.
Activities include:
- regular meetings held on a set day of each month;
- visits to places and organizations of particular
interest; and
- occasional social and sports outings.
Important features of Probus are:

a non-political and non-sectarian club;

non-profit making;.
(Membership fees are minimal and used mainly for space rental and
posta
- autonomous and
independent; Although the Club was founded under the sponsorship
of the
Rotary Club of Nepean-Kana membership in Rotary
or any other service club is not a
prerequisite)

non-compulsary attendance; and
-
welcome
participation by spouses and guests to most meetings and special
events.
By the middle of December 2007 membership in the Probus Club of Kanata had risen to over one hundred and fifty four.
