PROBUS CLUB OF KANATA
SERVING OTTAWA WEST
GUEST SPEAKER
September 9, 2008
Alex Munter
Executive Director of the Ottawa Youth Services Bureau, will speak on
"One year on the job: what I've learned so far about youth and the future of our community."
Alex was the teenage founder of the Kanata Kourier and, among his many achievements, is perhaps best known as a member of City Council for both Kanata and the amalgamated City of Ottawa. Alex was one of our Club's very first speakers, in its initial year of operations, and it is very appropriate that he returns to help us celebrate our tenth anniversary.
Meeting Location - Date –Time
Location: Kanata United Church, 33 Leacock Drive, Kanata.
Date: September 9, 2008. (The Probus Club of Kanata meets on the second Tuesday of the month at Kanata United Church).
Time: The Social Time, with tea and coffee being served, will begin at 10:00 a.m. The meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. with a short business meeting followed by the speaker. These timings were established in April 2008 to ensure that the church was opened and allow time for brewing the coffee. The meeting will finish shortly before 12:00 and we will adjourn to the church hall for a pot luck luncheon.
POT LUCK LUNCHEON (FINGER FOOD)
Please note that Alex Munter’s talk will be followed by a POT LUCK LUNCHEON in the church hall. Please bring only cold finger foods.
THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE PROBUS CLUB OF KANATA
On September 15, 1998 - 10 years ago, Kanata Probus held its first official meeting. Since then, it has met regularly from September to June with many programs running through the summer months. Attracting a diverse crowd, the early Club members shared a common trait to those of today - friendship! They like to get together, enjoy theatre, outings, and food! AND they enjoy hearing good speakers. Many of those who established our club are still with us – some have passed on. We thank them for their insight and energy in getting us going.
Come with your cold pot luck finger food contribution and enjoy our 10th Anniversary celebration! Dessert will be provided by the Anniversary Committee.

FUTURE MEETINGS
Tuesday, October 13, 2008
Janan Mosazai is a young Afghan journalist who, without an undergraduate degree, is currently in a graduate program in journalism at Carleton University. Assuming he is back on schedule from his August/September visit to Afghanistan, he will speak on the role of the media in the conflict in his country.
Tuesday, November 4, 2008
Our November speaker is traditionally associated with Remembrance. Duane Daly, Dominion Secretary of the Royal Canadian Legion will speak on the Legion’s impressive support to the western hemisphere’s most forgotten veterans of war – support that keeps many of them alive in their declining years. Please note that this meeting will be held on the first Tuesday of November.
Tuesday, December 9, 2008
In our final meeting before Christmas, it has become our custom to invite a speaker from a charitable institution to remind us of the true spirit of giving. This year, Yvonne Darby, Public Relations Manager for The Shepherds of Good Hope will speak on their work in our city.
Tuesday, January 13, 2009
In June, it seemed as if our speakers on fraud were just getting started when time ran out and we have invited Detective Linda Ogilvie of the Organized Fraud Section, Ottawa Police Service to return as our (solo) January speaker.
All speakers have been confirmed. In the event of a sudden cancellation, Harry Needham will present "A Tale of Six Grandfathers; or how a bunch of vets started up a place called Ontario."
